Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 25, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how lybr ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website (the "Site"). It's written in plain language on purpose — if anything is unclear, email us at legal@lybr.org and we'll clarify or fix it.
What We Collect
Account information. If you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and a password (which we never store in plain text — it's hashed before it's saved, so we can't see or recover your actual password).
Wizard answers and saved progress. If you use the guided wizard and save your progress (which requires an account), we store your answers, your current step, and whether you've marked steps complete, so you can pick up where you left off.
Situation descriptions and AI guidance history. If you describe your situation in your own words to get personalized guidance, or ask an AI-guidance question on a specific wizard step, we store the text you enter and the response you received, so you can revisit it later from your dashboard.
We do not currently collect uploaded documents. An earlier version of the Site allowed uploading documents like pay stubs or tax returns; we removed that feature and do not store copies of any documents you're gathering for your case. The document checklist feature stores only a checklist of item names on your own device (in your browser's local storage), not on our servers.
We do not currently use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies. The only cookie the Site sets is an essential session cookie used to keep you signed in, through our authentication provider (NextAuth). We don't run Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or similar tracking on the Site as of the date above. If that changes, we'll update this policy and this section first.
How We Use Information
We use the information above to: operate the Site and your account; save and restore your wizard progress and guidance history; generate the AI-guidance responses you request; respond to support or legal requests you send us; and improve the Site's content and functionality.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who We Share Information With
Anthropic (AI processing). When you request AI-generated guidance, the text of your question or situation description — along with relevant legal-research content from our database — is sent to Anthropic's API to generate a response. We do not send your name, email, or account identifiers as part of that request; Anthropic processes the text you typed and the legal content, not your account details.
Hosting and infrastructure providers. The Site is hosted on Vercel, and our database is hosted by Neon — both process data on our behalf as infrastructure providers, under their own security practices, and don't use your data for their own purposes.
We do not share your information with data brokers, advertisers, or other third parties for their own marketing purposes.
We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or court order, or if necessary to protect the safety of any person.
Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including hashing passwords, using encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) between your browser and our servers and between our servers and our database, and limiting who can access production data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.
Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your account information and saved data for as long as your account exists. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing legal@lybr.org — we don't currently have a fully self-service "delete my account" button in the product, so deletion requests are handled manually; we aim to complete them promptly.
Your Choices
You can review and update your saved walkthroughs and guidance history from your account dashboard. You can stop using the Site at any time. If you'd like a copy of the information we hold about you, email legal@lybr.org.
Children's Privacy
The Site is not directed to, and we do not knowingly collect information from, anyone under 18 years old.
International Users
The Site is intended for people navigating Colorado, U.S. family law matters, and our infrastructure and legal basis for processing are set up with a U.S. user base in mind. If you access the Site from outside the United States, you understand your information will be processed in the United States.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll post the updated version here with a new "Last updated" date.
